What book would you consider to be the most comprehensive guide to the style of visual art?

Looking for the best guide a bit like art visual currently available. I want excellent quality printing and reproduction, and introduced the art of being discussed and the text explaining that the coupling is too academic. It is absolutely fine if the book focuses entirely on painting. Yes, that's probably what many call a book style of painting, but I'll use the example of what I think is the best way to design and publish cookbooks as an example - as the book is open, there would be large format images of Crisp finished product on one page and the actual revenue associated with notes and comments on the other. I think the idea. I want a big-a look-book, but it is a period of profound and legitimate / style / technique / etc presentation. Thank you in advance for your recommendation.

At $ 499, 2250 pages and 18 books, through arts and letters of times by Philip M. Soergel is probably the most comprehensive book you can find. Booklist Over the past two decades, emphasis has shifted from history display events in a historical context integration easier. This package provides a multidimensional view of Western civilization, especially covering Egypt old (2675-332 BC), ancient Greece and Rome (1200 BCE-476 CE), Medieval Europe (814-1450 AD), Renaissance Europe (1300-1600 EC), and age of the Baroque and Enlightenment (1600-1800 AD). Similar in organization to Gale America World Eras times and lines, work exposes readers to each historical period through the study of nine different arts and humanities "," Architecture and Design "," Dance "," Fashion "" Literature "," Music, "" Philosophy, "" religion, "" Theater " and "Visual Arts". Each thematic issue in a different chapter, but the connections between the themes highlighted in the text and through referrals. The result is a broader and more inclusive picture of the culture of each period, emphasizing the links between, for example, religion, dance and literature, or between visual arts and architecture. Each chapter is structured in the same way, which contains a chronology, an overview of the development of the subject discussion, "Issues" section, which deals with various movements, schools of thought, and masterpieces that characterize discipline at this time, a handful of biographies of important people, and a list of documentary sources. Each of the subsections under "Topics" contains a list of sources. Written, developed by experts, is uniformly clear and informative, but rather pedantic. This is certainly not the time - the reading interest, not disseminate information in a style admirably direct. Sidebars offer primary source material (letters, poems, essays, songs, epitaphs, etc..) Many photographs in black and white reproductions and maps extend the text well. Technical terms and definitions that appear in the text and glossary, and lists of works for further information and media and online sources listed in the back of each volume. Although There is no cumulative index, each volume has its own correct level. For students and tertiary colleges, with or without historical antecedents, this set offers a strong image of the history of Western Europe through the arts. Ann Welton

Robert Crumb,world-famous illustrator and definite pervert, got his start in the underground comics scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The R. Crumb Coffee Table ArtBook is a collection of his best work from the last 50 years (it's got kids stuff, too, which is pretty fascinating). The volume is a welcome reminder that, screwed up as Crumb may be, he's also a tremendously talented, utterly original artist. He artistically embodies a certain segment of the '60s, and as that fades even further into history, Crumb's material becomes more important. Is The R. Crumb Coffee Table Art Book funny? Yes, certainly, in a coarse, Rabelaisian way; you'll either find it a hoot, or horribly racist and sexist. And it's not for the kiddies, obviously. But R. Crumb is so well known by now, that you probably know which group you fall into, the lovers or the haters. The lovers will find this book awonderful treat.

The Art of the Table

The Art of the Table

Coming together to share a meal is one of our most vital traditions. Whether dining with friends, family, or business associates, we know that an elegant setting and gracious manners bring a sense of harmony and order to the occasion. Yet when it comes to knowing precisely how to set a table for formal and informal dining, which fork is for dessert and which for the appetizer, how to serve different types of wine -- even how to eat certain foods -- many of us are not fully confident.Suzanne von Drachenfels learned this firsthand in her career as an expert on table setting, tableware, and etiquette. Conducting seminars throughout the country, she would hear the same questions again and again: Should bread be buttered entirely or bite by bite? What is the purpose of holding a wine glass by the stem or the base? Is handmade crystal worth the price difference? The Art of the Table answers all these questions and more. A treasure trove of timeless information, this complete guide is to the table what Joy of Cooking is to the kitchen. Von Drachenfels shows us how to select, lay, and use tableware to enhance any dining experience, and how to properly store and care for it -- whether it's your grandmother's porcelain or everyday stainless steel. She provides guidance on mixing and matching tableware patterns; the basics of coffee, tea, and wine; menu planning; napkin folding; and the proper service techniques for all types of entertainment. So as not to let the lore of the table fall away, she delves deep into the history of specific tableware and the customs we keep, making today's practices understandable. For the novice host, this is an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide with more than one hundred helpful illustrations. For the host with more experience, it is a rich and exciting source of new ideas. Like its author, whose passion for the table is contagious, The Art of the Table is an authoritative, elegant, and sophisticated resource for all one's dining needs.

Linking alchemy, anthropology, politics, and science, Antony Wild uncovers the intrigue that coffee has woven into its 500-year history. Coffee trader and historian Antony Wild delivers a rollicking history of the most valuable legally traded commodity in the world after oil—and an industry that employs one hundred million people throughout the world. From obscure beginnings in East Africa in the fifteenth century as a stimulant in religious devotion, coffee became an imperial commodity, produced by poor tropical countries and consumed by rich temperate ones. Through the centuries, the influence of coffee on the rise of capitalism and its institutions has been enormous. Revolutions were once hatched in coffeehouses, commercial alliances forged, secret societies formed, and politics and art endlessly debated. Today, while coffee chains spread like wildfire, coffee-producing countries are in crisis: with prices at a historic low, they are plagued by unprecedented unemployment, abandoned farms, enforced migration, and massive social disruption. Bridging the gap between coffee's dismal colonial past and its perilous corporate present, Coffee reveals the shocking exploitation that has always lurked at the heart of the industry. 8 pages of color illustrations.
